Biography

Doriana Tchakarova is an internationally successful pianist, winner of numerous competitions and her album recordings have been honoured with major awards.

As a Lied pianist and chamber musician, she has performed on renowned concert stages in Berlin, Vienna, Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Hanover, Freiburg, Lugano and Bayreuth. She has also performed at major festivals such as the Heidelberger Frühling, the Oxford Lied Festival, the Dresden Music Festival, the Musikverein Wien, the Sindelfingen Lied Festival, the Mozartfest Würzburg, the Lausitz Festival and the Schubertiada Barcelona.

Doriana Tchakarova works with renowned vocal partners, including baritone Äneas Humm, Samuel Hasselhorn, Juliane Banse, Eva Zalenga, Sarah Wegner, Julian Prégardien and the SWR Vokalensemble. Her album ‘SAGA’, which presents ballads by Schubert, Loewe, Schumann and Jensen was released in 2019 together with baritone Konstantin Krimmel on the renowned Alpha Classics label. It received nominations for the International Classical Music Awards (ICMA) and the Opus Klassik as well as a Diapason découverte award.

On her album ‘In Relations’ (2024) with soprano Eva Zalenga, she revives fascinating connections between outstanding composers of the 19th century and the most important poets, male and female, of their time. Earlier recordings had received international recognition as well and had also been nominated for the Opus Klassik.

Doriana Tchakarova was born in Varna, Bulgaria, and completed her bachelor’s and master’s degree in piano at the Stuttgart University of Music with Prof Fernande Kaeser and Prof Friedemann Rieger. She also studied in Prof Konrad Richter’s lied class. Her talent has been recognised with numerous prizes, including second prize at the international piano competition ‘Dimitar Nenov’ and first prize at the Berlin ‘Rising Stars Grand Prix International Music Competition’.

She is currently a lecturer in vocal accompaniment at the Stuttgart University of Music and Performing Arts and a sought-after accompanist at masterclasses and international commpetitions.
