Eva Zalenga’s great passion is for Lied: ‘When singing Lied, I am drawn to fine, detailed work: the nuances of pronunciation, playing with the lyricism and the intimacy that arises. I particularly enjoy the challenge of telling a whole story in just a few minutes,’ says Eva Zalenga. She received her first singing lessons at the age of seven. She won a prize at the national youth competition ‘Jugend musiziert’ and studied at the music academies in Dresden and Leipzig. Masterclasses with Vesselina Kasarova, Rudolf Piernay and Christine Schäfer, among others, complemented her training. Eva Zalenga recently made her debut in Denmark at the Royal Danish Opera in Copenhagen as Sophie (Werther) and at the Deutsche Oper Berlin as Adele (Die Fledermaus). She sang at the Schubertíada in Vilabertran, Spain, and impressed in the Meistersingerhalle Nuremberg with the soprano role in Bach’s ‘St John Passion’.
In 2025 Eva Zalenga is honoured with the ZONTA Culture Award.
Following their successful joint debut album ‘In Relations’, soprano Eva Zalenga and pianist and accompanist Doriana Tchakarova are following up with a new album: The new album ‘varia · bel’ is a musical journey through three centuries and impresses with the great versatility of lied. Clarinet, violin and violoncello complement the classical song duo of voice and piano to form a colourful chamber music ensemble. Eva Zalenga reveals the full range of her expressive voice and sings polyglotically in three languages. Together with her long-time piano partner Doriana Tchakarova, she has put together an enchanting programme for this album. Together they present extraordinary rarities, Irish folk songs, romantic classics and a world premiere recording.
