Markus Stenz receives two nominations for major German recording prize

Two of Markus Stenz’s recent recordings have received nominations for the Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik one of the world’s leading recording prizes.

The two recordings nominated are:

Mahler: Symphonies Nos 9 & 10 with the Gürzenich Orchestra on Oehms Classics

Karl Amadeus Hartmann: Simplicius Simplicissimus with a cast lead by Juliane Banse and the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra on the Challenge label.

The Mahler recording is the last in their complete Mahler cycle which has received outstanding critical acclaim and comes at the end of Stenz’s term as General Music Director of the City of Cologne. The Hartmann recording comes at the beginning of his term as Principal Conductor of the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra.
