Marzena Diakun becomes the new chief conductor of the Staatsorchester Rheinische Philharmonie

From the 2026/2027 season, the Polish conductor Marzena Diakun will take over the position of chief conductor of the Staatsorchester Rheinische Philharmonie in Koblenz. This was announced by State Secretary for Culture Jürgen Hardeck at a press conference.

Marzena Diakun succeeds Benjamin Shwartz, who has led the orchestra since the 2022/2023 season and will end his position by mutual agreement at the end of the 2024/2025 season. Marzena Diakun will join the Rheinische Philharmonie as Chief Conductor Designate as early as May 2025.

With Marzena Diakun, an internationally renowned conductor will take over the musical direction of the state orchestra. As artistic director and chief conductor of the Orquesta y Coro de la Comunidad de Madrid, she has recently attracted a great deal of attention.
