The Sitkovetsky Trio completes its Beethoven cycle with the “Ghost Trio” and one of its own arrangement

On 9 August 2024, the third and final album in the cycle of Beethoven’s piano trios will be released on the BIS records label. It features Beethoven’s op. 1 no. 1, the early masterpiece that was composed in Bonn in his early days, combined with the famous “Ghost Trio”, whose nickname refers to the “goosebump effects” in the slow movement and, according to Beethoven’s pupil Carl Czerny, is said to go back to his preoccupation with the ghost in Shakespeare’s Hamlet.

Another gem is Beethoven’s arrangement of the Ukrainian Cossack melody Schöne Minka in an arrangement for piano trio by Isang Enders.

The Sitkovetsky Trio received the Diapason d’Or ARTE for Volume 1 of the Beethoven cycle, after the album had already been honoured with the BBC Music Magazine Award for its juxtaposition of Ravel and Saint-Saëns, among others.
